Temple’s healthcare economy was built over decades through strategic investment, institutional commitment, and community vision. The Temple Health and Bioscience District (THBD)  was created by the community in 2003 to protect and grow that foundation. By attracting the brightest medical minds, investing in local infrastructure like Temple Medical District, and creating connections between our public and private sectors, our goal is to ensure our healthcare ecosystem remains a high-wage engine for the local economy. Ultimately, we aim to turn Temple’s healthcare assets into measurable benefits for residents and patients. 

Public accountability

Governed by a seven-member board of Temple community members, THBD holds public board meetings, complies with the Texas Open Meetings Act, and undergoes an annual independent audit. Every dollar we invest is designed to return multiples in private capital and community benefit.
