Strengthening Temple’s Healthcare Workforce Starts in the Classroom

Temple College’s new Health Sciences Building, opening later this year, will expand training capacity and strengthen pathways into high-demand healthcare careers.

Temple has long been recognized as a breeding ground for highly skilled healthcare professionals. That reputation comes from the strength of its institutions, strategic investment, and a collaborative ecosystem committed to advancing education, career pathways, and workforce development.

Temple College’s new Health Sciences Building, opening later this year, takes that momentum further.

The 63,657-square-foot facility expands training capacity across nursing, sonography, and other health sciences programs. Students will gain access to a state-of-the-art sonography clinic, nursing simulation center, modern classrooms, and a new front entrance where they can discover the wide variety of health career specialty training available at Temple College.

The building’s fourth-floor standardized patient care lab, developed in partnership with Baylor Scott & White, brings innovative training to life. Students work with actors simulating patient scenarios, creating opportunities to practice communication, assessment, and clinical decision-making in realistic settings. The lab will also serve as a skills space for medical students and provide surge capacity for hospital support during disasters.

The expansion is just one part of Temple College’s bigger growth story. Enrollment has jumped 22% since 2021, and they now offer more than 80 degree, certificate, and workforce programs, including competitive healthcare and advanced manufacturing training.

For students, the new Health Sciences Building means more chances to build real-world skills before stepping into clinical settings. Training in advanced simulation environments helps them refine technical skills, sharpen clinical judgment, and build confidence before entering patient care roles. For healthcare providers, it supports a stronger, more consistent pipeline of professionals prepared to meet evolving care needs.

This growth comes at an important time, as demand for healthcare professionals continues to rise across Central Texas and the state. Increasing capacity helps more students enter high-need, high-paying fields while strengthening Temple’s ability to develop and retain local talent.

The facility also reinforces Temple College’s role within a broader educational and healthcare network. Through its partnership with Texas Tech University, students benefit from streamlined transfer pathways to continue their education and earn a bachelor’s degree.

Together, these developments position Temple as a top-choice destination for healthcare careers, where institutions, educators, and employers collaborate to help early-career professionals launch, advance, and thrive long-term. With its opening on the horizon, Temple College’s Health Sciences Building reminds us that investing in education is investing in Temple’s future.
